Child ID Program Coming to Nittany Bank
Press Release
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County, Nittany Bank, and local law enforcement to give away Child I.D. kits on Saturday, October 31 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Nittany Bank community offices.
State College, PA. October 20, 2009 - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County, Nittany Bank, and local law enforcement agencies have joined forces to distribute free Child I.D. Kits to the public on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Nittany Bank community offices 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Children dressed in costume will receive a special spooky prize.
The National Child ID Program allows for children to be fingerprinted with the identification information being maintained by parents and guardians. Parents and guardians are encouraged to maintain fingerprints of their children in the event they are involved in a disaster or foul play. Increased awareness, collaboration of communities and the ever-growing number of parents fingerprinting their children have made a very real impact on law enforcement’s ability to locate a missing child.
“We are proud to be bringing child safety awareness to the forefront this Halloween with these two exceptional community partners,” remarks Dave Richards, Jr. president of Nittany Bank. The public is encouraged to attend.
Founded in 1984 as Tri-County Habitat for Humanity, our local Habitat has built or renovated over 50 homes in Centre, Clearfield, and Clinton Counties. For more information on how you can help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Centre County visit our website at http://www.habitatgcc.org/.

Snow in October - a wake up call for holiday saving.
Our region was hit by an early snowstorm yesterday. For the record, it was the earliest we've ever had snow here. Schools were cancelled today and I wonder how many kids woke up this morning wondering if it almost holiday time.
While a couple months may seem like an enternity to children, to us adults it means the holidays are just around the corner. The early snow is our wake up call. Have you saved enough for the holiday's this year?
It may be a bit late to start saving for this holiday season but it is not too early to start for next year. Talk to your bank about setting an automatic transfer from checking to savings so when that we get our wake up call next year we're already up and having coffee.

Today is Blog Action Day - Blog About Global Warming
So today is Blog Action Day where annually bloggers around the world blog about one specific topic to try to bring about awareness and change in order to better the world. This years topic is global warming.
So what does a bank have to say or more importantly what can a bank and its customers do to help slow down global warming? Here are a few things we can do together to help.
1. Use online bill pay - paying more of your bill electronically as opposed to mailing a check will reduce paper use as well as reduce fuel consumption due to transportation needs to get your check to its destination.
2. e-Statements - not only is getting your statements online more secure, it greatly reduces paper and fuel consumption. The fact is that your bank cannot send you an e-statement unless you sign up for it. Go do it..do it now.
3. Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) - RDC is mostly used by businesses as opposed to personal account holders but it is gradually moving over into the personal account realm. Remote deposit capture allows you to scan your check(s) for deposit electronically to your bank as opposed to making the trip (fuel consumption) to the bank. Banks have been doing this internally for a while now.
4. Online chat - if you bank offers an online chat as a customer service channel take advantage of it. Or if your bank has a customer friendly phone service go ahead and give it a try.
5. Socially Repsonsible Banks - when choosing a bank, try to find one that shows it cares about the environment through "green banking" initiatives.
6. Online meetings - Ok, this one is directed towards the banks. Banks love to have meetings so instead of making the attendents hop in their cars and travel why not have them online? Just as good as meeting in a board room mabye even better.
Every little bit helps. What are some other little things we can do?

United Way fundraiser pits local banks against each other
Saturday October 24, 2009 Bowling Event.
Six local banks will be going head to head at the Moshannon Valley Super Bowl to raise money for the Centre County United Way. Reliance Bank (main sponsor), PNC, M&T, Ameriserv, Northwest Savings, Penn State FCU, and Nittany Bank will be putting teams together. Nittany Bank is the early favorite at 2:1 to win. Although an inside source tells me that Ameriserv may be bringing in a ringer which could move the line significantly.
So far Nittany's team of four will consist of Brett Hoag and Ed Conklin with the other two to be named later.
